This is a comprehensive two day intensive course, that provides you with knowledge and skills to confidently begin funeral celebrant practice. As well as considering key theroretic ideas, you will develop a logical step-by-step process to plan, write, deliver and reflect on a funeral service. 

The workshop will introduce you to key knowledge and skills. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to develop these through targeted on-line assignments. 

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  •  Describe the purposes of a funeral service
  •  Discuss funeral ceremony as a rite-of-passage ceremony
  • Understanding the death and dying space 
  • Understanding the role of the Independent Advocate
  •  Discuss funeral service structure and components
  •  Identify key terms and roles in the funeral industry
  •  Understand how to work with grieving clients
  •  Hold a professional client/family interview 
  •  Describe a step-by-step process from booking to post-service reflection
  •  Demonstrate effective client interviewing skills
  •  Demonstrate cultural and spiritual responsiveness
  •  Identify health and safety requirements
  •  Develop key documents and resources
  •  Understand the importance of self-care
  •  Explain ritual enactments and their meanings
  •  Write three funeral services
  •  Deliver a funeral service
  •  Review a funeral service
