Are There Benefits to Studying the Course in Person?

There are a number of reasons why we suggest students attend the three-day intensive in person. The course material is complex, and there is a lot of it. Students get to study for three days under the watchful eyes of an experienced celebrant and trainer, who will guide and instruct you through the more complicated facets of celebrancy. Students learning in person will spend one entire day navigating the difficult to understand legal aspects of marriage, adoption, and immigration, with detailed walkthroughs of all official forms celebrants will come into contact with. If you choose to study online or via distance learning, we are there to assist you, but you don't have the three days of comprehensive training with an instructor, which gets you so much more motivated and confident to complete your studies. Assignments are also easier to complete for students attending the course in person.

What Resources Are Required to Complete the Cert IV in Celebrancy?

To complete this course you will need:

  • A computer
  • Access to Microsoft Word or Office 365
  • Access to Adobe Reader
  • A working email address to submit assignments
  • 4 people to assist you in conducting a full marriage ceremony for one of your assignments (5 people must attend the mock ceremony that you conduct)
  • 20 guests to attend of the marriage ceremonies (This is something we hope to be able to assist you with)
  • Access to a digital video camera to record 2 assignments
    • interviews with couples, families  (mock bride and groom) (mock family)
    • full mock marriage ceremony, (bride and groom and 2 witnesses)
    • mock ceremonies in life, loss and love

If you do not have access to these resources, we suggest calling us before enrolling. We do offer an option to attend one of our Melbourne presentation days where students can complete the mock marriage ceremony in front of an assessor face-to-face, to avoid having to record it at home - this comes at an additional cost. We also suggest putting roughly $100 aside for training resources, books, and DVD's which are available at the courses, and will assist you with timely completion of your studies.

Are There Assignments to Complete?

Yes, regardless of whether you choose the three-day training or the distance learning course - there are 13 assignments to complete. They vary widely in content and the time they take to complete. If you join the three-day intensive training, some components are completed in-class, with the remainder completed at home. If you enroll in the distance/online course, you have all 13 assignments to complete from home.

How Long Does the Course Take?

Most students take anywhere between three to nine months to complete the Cert IV in Celebrancy. Students that attend the three-day course, historically, have completed the training faster with a trainer going through many items in-class. However, there are still 13 assessments to complete once you've completed the in-person training. The time it takes varies with your level of education, skill level, and your ability to put time aside to study.

Does the Course Have an Expiry Date?

Yes, each course has an expiry date. If your expiry date is reached and you have not completed the coursework, or an extension has not been granted, you will have to re-enrol at the full price to complete the course.
